The Cornerstone Connection April 2008
“Christ is Risen, He is Risen Indeed!”
Easter
Attendance Tops 300!
With shouts of Christ’s resurrection and hymns of praise, Cornerstone had a
joyful Easter Worship. The church was
full and the children excited. Our thanks to Bob Burkhardt and the choir, plus Doug Woolverton on
the trumpet, the children on the bells, and Sue Woolverton interpreting. Rev. Rob finished his sermon series on
Matthew’s Gospel with “What Jesus Did For You and
Me.” And then on March 30, started a new
series on Paul’s Letter to the Corinthians
“April’s Fools’ Joke?” Reprints
of these sermons are available upon request.
Happy
Birthday Cornerstone Church!
This Sunday, April 6, marks the third birthday
of our chartering as a “real”
church. Please make every effort
to come to church and celebrate this Sunday.

Prayer
and Discernment—Building Alternatives
Over the last 4
months, our task force has met with numerous leaders, engineers, lawyers,
architects, etc. to discover God’s will for building. Presently, Cornerstone has 17 acres on Rt. 571
near the Goetz School.
The cost of building a church is over $150. a
sq. ft. so we
are doing our homework to figure out the most cost efficient approach. The task force of Bruce Thompson, Chuck Calhoun, John
Hekl, and Rev. Rob has also been
assisted by John Rosato and Gordon Connelly.
Contributions toward our building now total over $131,000. We always welcome your contributions. Please remember the church in your will.

Youth News:
A Report from Princeton Seminary
Student Leigh Stuckey
This Easter
season Cornerstone Youth had a great response.
Beginning with our Mardi Gras Lenten Kick off celebration, we discussed
fasting and the purpose of
Lent. Next, we visited the
Russian Orthodox Church in Cassville to discuss the symbols, icons, and
liturgies of our
brothers and sisters in the Orthodox
community. We folded palm crosses
for the congregation and made up packets for those men and friends of Derek
Martin at the Ancora
State Mental
Hospital.
Next week we viewed an adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia.
During Holy Week,
we watched the Czech short film “Most” about a father who chooses to sacrifice his son for a larger group of
people. We had a fruitful discussion
about the sacrifice of Jesus and its effectiveness for salvation. Then we had an Easter egg hunt, in which each
egg was hidden a part of the Easter story.
Once the eggs were found, the youth put the events in order and
discussed them. This past week the youth
went ice skating and played laser tag.
We really have
an awesome group of youth. Thanks to
those who help,
Jeremiah Knabe (612-386-1805), Pete and Kristine Michel (732-961-6701 and cell 908-419-4885) and all our fine
parents. Youth Fellowship meets Wednesday
at DeBows
Church 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Saturday
morning April 12, is Jackson Clean up Day.
Join hundreds of
Other youth in Jackson to pick up trash and make Jackson proud!
New
Financial Team Organized

financial and auditing background and so we are glad that they will be able to
review Cornerstone’s books and make any necessary corrections. This is a big development for Cornerstone
